WORK IN PROGRESS: TRISTAN AND ISOLDE - AN AROMANCE

I am currently working on a new piece, Tristan and Isolde - An Aromance. The work explores amatonormativity, the belief that romantic relationships are necessary for happiness and should be the ultimate goal of life for everyone.

The idea of the work is to adapt the romance of the mother of love stories, Tristan and Isolde, and give it another twist. In the original story, the two mistakenly drink a love potion prepared for the king, fall deeply in love, and Tristan finds himself unable to start life anew without her. To me, Tristan and Isolde is about two figures who were never meant to be in love and were subjugated to. As opposed to the tragic timeless romance, I foreground Tristan and Isolde's whole spectrum of aromantic experiences and nuances, from no romantic attraction at all to varying levels and kinds of romantic feelings.

I am working on the new piece with PALO Art Productions.
